Pathways to Nature - Winter Woodland Works
Hounslow Council is bringing nature closer to you
As one of London’s greenest boroughs, Hounslow aims to preserve valuable green spaces, ensuring they continue to flourish and benefit both nature and the community. By prioritising sustainable management practices and enhancing the natural beauty and ecological health of our open spaces we are helping to promote biodiversity in the borough.
The borough's woodlands are vital for conservation efforts. Healthy woodlands, with their variety of habitats, contribute to a thriving ecosystem and research shows that walking among trees boosts happiness, creativity, and vitality while reducing stress. Without proper management, there would be restricted access to these areas.
This is why the Pathways to Nature project was created.
Breathe life back into our woods
Woodland management is important because without it, tree cover can become too dense, and prevents sunlight from reaching the ground. When this occurs plant growth below is reduced, which leads to a decline in woodland diversity, threatening other plants and animals.
This winter season, clearance works will be taking place in the overgrown woodland areas within Inwood Park, Lampton Park and Thornbury Park. These spaces are essential for local communities to feel connected to nature and develop a sense of belonging. By removing barriers and creating access there are more opportunities for green recreation, mindfulness, and an appreciation of conservation efforts.
We have taken expert advice from our Arboricultural team at Lampton Greenspace and have commissioned them to carry out these tree, ecological and infrastructure works.
Works are due to commence mid - November until end of 2024.
See map and details under the 'signage' section.
Works are subject to weather conditions.
Don’t worry, we're on it!
Once works start it may seem a little hectic on site with contractors and their range of machinery on site. Please don’t be alarmed, all works carried out are under set instruction and are risk assessed. Try and avoid getting too close to any operating machinery to avoid injury, but if you see a Lampton Operative and would like to find out more, you are more than welcome to ask a few questions.
Where trees will need to be removed all material will remain on site and used to create log stacks or stag beetle piles where suitable to help encourage wildlife.
If you would like to get involved with any volunteering at these sites once this work is complete, please visit the 'Volunteering in Parks' related project.
