Electrifying Hounslow – have your say on proposed EV charging points across the borough
Overview
Hounslow Council is planning to expand its network of electric vehicle (EV) charging points across the borough. The aim is to support residents who want to switch to EVs and make sure charging is available where it’s needed most.
We are now seeking feedback on specific proposed charging locations in your ward.
Background
This programme supports the move away from petrol and diesel vehicles towards cleaner transport. Transport is one of the biggest sources of carbon emissions locally, so increasing EV use is important for improving air quality and meeting climate goals.
EV ownership is growing quickly. Around 51% of residents in the borough don’t have off-street parking, which means public charging points are essential. National policy is also driving change. The UK plans to stop the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030, and new hybrid cars by 2035. The borough needs to prepare now so infrastructure keeps up with demand.
The Council launched its EV Charging Strategy in November 2022, setting a target of delivering over 2,000 new charge points, particularly in residential areas that do not have off-street parking.
Why Your Feedback Matters
The Council has undertaken initial technical studies to identify suitable locations that align with the walking distances identified in its EV Charging Strategy, whilst also considering factors such as highway safety, proximity to residential areas and accessibility.
Ward Councillors have reviewed these sites, but local insight is essential, things like parking habits, busy times of day, access needs, or community preferences can make a big difference.
By responding, you will help:
highlight local issues or opportunities that technical studies may have missed when choosing the proposed sites
inform final decisions about where charge points are installed
ensure installations consider safety, accessibility, and real-life neighbourhood use.
How will the Engagement Work?
Proposed locations will be published in phases. Each phase will be open for feedback for approximately four weeks. After the engagement period closes, you will still be able to view the locations on the EV Map but the opportunity to comment on the phase will have closed.
Phase 1 – Slow Lamp Column Charge Points

Viewing Proposed and Existing Charge Points – EV Map
Even after an engagement window has closed, you will still be able to view proposed sites on the EV Map.
The EV Map shows:
The locations of existing slow, fast and rapid charge points across the borough
The locations of proposed slow, fast and rapid charge points once they are ready to be shared for engagement
The EV Map allows you to see both current and planned future provision in one place.
The EV Map will be updated regularly to reflect new proposals and any changes as the programme progresses.
What Happens Next?
After the engagement closes, officers will review all feedback received.
A summary of comments will be shared with Ward Members and the Cabinet Member to help inform the next steps. Final decision reports will then be published online.
Lamp Column Charge Points – Dedicated Parking Bays
Installation of lamp column charging devices may begin before dedicated parking bays are formally consulted on.
The introduction of dedicated bays adjacent to lamp column charge points will be subject to a separate statutory consultation process. Details of these consultations will also be published on this page.
