Berkeley Academy School Street Consultation
Hounslow Council wants your views on proposal to implement a School Street zone around Berkeley Academy, as part of ongoing efforts to tackle problems associated with traffic around schools at drop-off and pick-up times. This consultation is open for your views until 5th December 2025. We would like to hear from residents, parents and the local community.
Overview
In recent years, the Council has stepped up its efforts to tackle problems associated with traffic around schools at drop-off and pick-up times through the introduction of School Streets, to address issues such as road safety concerns, poor air quality, and inconvenience to residents. School Streets prohibit access to a road by motor vehicles during particular times of the day, around school start and finish times.
What are we proposing?
The proposed school street restrictions will cover Fairmead Close and Whytecroft, and will operate between Monday – Friday, 8.15 - 9.15am and 2.45 - 3.45pm, during school term time. There will be exemptions for those who live within the zone and their visitors, as well as blue badge holders and easily recognizable delivery vehicles (e.g. supermarket lorries).
In addition, changes to prevent obstructive parking on Cranford Lane are proposed:
New School Keep Clear Marking and amendment to an existing marking to prevent stopping between Sarin supermarket and No. 109 Cranford Lane, alongside the two access points to the school. The restrictions would apply Mon – Fri 8:15 – 9.15am and 2.45 - 3.45pm, to match the proposed School Street hours. Parking would continue to be permitted at all other times.
New bollards outside Sarin supermarket to prevent footway parking which creates a pinch point in an otherwise wide footway. The controlled area crossing markings here will also be extended.
The School Street restrictions will be enforced by the Council through the use of CCTV, which could be either mobile or fixed cameras. CCTV can also be used to enforce the School Keep Clear restrictions.
A copy of the proposals and a copy of the consultation letter (including the plan of proposals) can be accessed using the links on this page. You can also view our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on School Streets.
Why are we proposing this?
The proposals form part of the Council’s commitment to promoting active travel (encourage children to walk, cycle and scoot to school), reduce pollution and improve safety outside the school.
Drop-in Session - come and meet the team to discuss any queries you have about the scheme. We will be at the junction of Whytecroft Road and Cranford Lane between 3.15pm and 4.15pm on Tuesday 11 November.
