Consultation has concluded

This consultation closed on 12 April 2024.

Thank you to everyone that responded to the consultation. We have shared a summary of the responses below, including details of the decision(s) taken as of the feedback received.

What we consulted on

In response to concerns that the existing controlled parking zone’s (CPZ) operational times were no longer fit for purpose, the council carried out a consultation with those residing or working within the CPZ boundary. The purpose of this was to understand local views on the existing CPZ and whether any changes were required to the current times of the scheme.

The council also included proposals to amend the existing layout of the CPZ which included:

  • the creation of additional parking bays
  • the conversion of some shared-use parking bays to resident only
  • upgrading some existing single yellow lines to double yellow lines where parking is not deemed appropriate

Who responded

The review consultation received a total of 43 responses from the 319 properties consulted which represents a response rate of 13%.

What did people say?

The results of the consultation indicate a clear preference for the CPZ to be retained.

There was also clear support for the existing operational days of Monday-Saturday although there was a variety of views submitted in relation to the operational hours. However, in light of there being no clear alternative with majority support, it was agreed that the times of 8am-6.30pm also be retained.

It was further agreed that the proposed additional bays and conversion of some shared-use bays to resident only bays, be progressed. The proposal to upgrade sections of single yellow line to double yellow lines were scaled back as a result of the feedback received and this proposal was revised to only focus on road junctions or locations where parking does create obstruction.

Following analysis of the consultation results, a Chief Officer Decision report was published at item 4 here summarising the feedback received and identifying the decisions taken. Recommendations were approved to retain the current operational times of the scheme but to advance the scheme layout amendments to the formal (statutory) consultation stage. That formal statutory consultation has since been completed and the proposed amendments were introduced in March 2025.
