Will a swale or ditch shaped SuDS fill with sewage?

There will be no direct link between the sewer on London Road and the swale. Therefore, there is no way for sewage to reach the swale in the park. Instead, the project will involve the installation of new drainage channels along London Road that will capture rainfall, filter out silt, and then divert the filtered rainfall into the swale. The rainwater will then naturally filter through the ground to the underground storage layer. At the base of the storage, there will be a one-way outlet with a flow control device which, during very heavy rainfall, will slowly release the water back into the existing underlying drainage network. This will reduce peak water levels and flood risk in the surrounding area.
