In 2019, Hounslow was awarded the Thames Water Strategic Partnership (TWSP) as part of our successful bid submission in competition with several other London Boroughs.
The TWSP is a five-year programme of works running from 2020-2025 which is aimed at improving surface water management and sewer capacity across the borough using Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS). We are progressing nine schemes across Hounslow, construction of three schemes has been successfully completed at College Road, Green School for Girls and Smallberry Green Primary School.
What are SuDS?
SuDS aim to reduce surface water flooding, improve water quality, and enhance the amenity and biodiversity value of the environment.
Your local SuDS are important because they:
Reduce surface water flooding
Improve water quality
Enhance biodiversity value of the environment
Improve green spaces
Watch this video to find out more:
Who is delivering the project?
The SuDS schemes are being delivered by Hounslow Council in partnership with Thames Water and Thames21 are leading on community engagement. The engagement programme will be centred on explaining what SuDS are, the benefits, and what will be delivered in your local area.
How can you get involved?
In the last few months, Thames21 hosted Open Days about the upcoming installation of SuDS across several areas in Hounslow as well as hosting a planting day at Renfrew Road where local residents helped install plants in the SuDS flowerbed.
Stay up to date with latest events and how you can get involved by signing up to our newsletter or the WhatsApp SuDS Community Group or by checking this webpage which will be updated when new events are announced.
Where and why?
The locations have been chosen based on a combination of flood hotspot mapping, where there are known issues with sewer capacity and surface water drainage, combined with feasibility studies that meet the criteria for funding as part of the Thames Water Strategic Partnership.
