The Council consulted residents between 20th October and 10th November 2025. We have listened to the residents who participated in the original consultation, and as a result, the proposals have been updated to reflect this. This Consultation is open for your views until 19th January 2026. We would like to hear from residents and the local community.
Overview
As part of the Council’s commitment to increase levels of cycling in the borough, we provide residents with the opportunity to apply for cycle parking in the form of a bike hangar. Bike hangars offer secure cycle parking for residents in areas where the ability to safely store bikes within a property, or the front/rear garden is limited. The borough currently has 55 bike hangars in the borough, 43 of which are fully subscribed and have a waiting list.
The location of a bike hangars is based on a request from residents. Once a request is received and funding is secured, a feasibility assessment and a site visit is undertaken to ensure that the location is viable and a suitable location is proposed. The proposed location is based on many factors including: parking availability, width of the footway, property frontage (bike hangars will not be placed directly outside a pedestrian access) and the proximity to original request.
What are we proposing?
The Council would like to consult on the following bike hangars in revised locations:
Balfern Grove: The council previously proposed a bike hangar within a parking bay on Eastbury Grove, however, there is an existing space on Balfern Grove that is not directly in front of an active property within a parking bay that is 48m in length, which will allow 8 cars to park there after the installation of the hangar.
Burligton Road: The previous consultation responses were highly in favour of the installation of a bike hangar, however it was not in a desirable location, as a result the revised location is near the original request in a parking bay that is 50m which will still allow 8 cars to park after the installation of the hangar.
Chiswick High Road: The previous location was proposed further west on Chiswick High Road, which required the removal of three existing Sheffield stands. A new location has been proposed outside of 225a Chiswick High Road on the footway which will not require the removal of existing cycle parking.
Hearne Road: The council previously proposed a bike hangar at Strand-on-the-green however, it was not in a desirable location as this is a bay which is highly used by residents and visitors, and a high number of respondents suggested that the bike hangar should be placed on Hearne Road, therefore the revised location is here.
Reckitt Road: The council previously proposed a bike hangar at Dale Street and Duke Road, and a high number of respondents suggested that the bike hangar should be placed on Reckitt Road. Therefore, the new proposal is within a parking bay which not directly of a frontage of a property and is 48m in length, which will allow 8 cars to park there after the installation of the hangar.
Why are we proposing this?
The proposals form part of the Council’s commitment to supporting active travel by making cycling more accessible and convenient for residents. Secure bike hangars provide safe on-street storage for bicycles, helping people who may not have space at home to own and use a bike. By increasing access to secure cycle parking.
