Reimagining Our Streets
Consultation has concluded
This consultation closed on 20 December 2023, an update will be available shortly which will summarise the findings and next steps.
As part of our ambitious plans for a healthier, greener and safer Hounslow, we are looking to reimagine our streets for the benefit of more residents and businesses.
We want to update how our parking and ‘kerbside’ spaces are used to create well designed streets and public areas that work for everyone. 60% of journeys in the borough are made by walking, cycling and public transport, and we would like our streets and spaces to benefit everyone.

To help shape our vision we are inviting you to have your say on our Parking and Kerbside strategies. We’re keen to hear your thoughts and ideas on how you would like these spaces to be used and managed.

What’s the kerbside?
The kerbside is the space that sits on the road next to the pavement. You might currently find cars, trees, cycle parking, or taxi bays here. Well-designed streets and spaces benefit everyone, not just a few. We are considering proposals for other kerbside uses such as more trees, plants, car clubs, seating and outdoor eating areas and deliveries.
Why is parking important?
Hounslow requires a progressive car parking strategy to manage and enhance its existing provision to meet emerging trends. The Parking Strategy looks to maximise benefits for users, as well as enhancing parking management by examining a number of key areas. These include parking supply, safety & security, signage, future mobility (e.g. electric charging points), pricing, operations, active travel options (e.g. cycling, walking), accessible and priority parking (e.g. for people with disabilities or parent and toddler bays).
What happens next?
Following the consultation, we will publish a report on what you’ve told us as well as our key stakeholders and partners. We will make changes to the strategies based on this information, and the final strategies will be submitted to Cabinet for approval.

Car Clubs
Car Clubs are great if you want the flexibility of using a car occasionally but don't want to own. We want to expand the number of Car Club providers and bays in Hounslow. The draft strategy sets out our proposed approach on the spacing between bays, which is shown on the map. If you think more bays are needed, drop a pin where you would like to see a new bay. We will use this information to demonstrate demand for new bays and inform the development of the strategy.

Cycling
Cycling is a great way to get around Hounslow, and as part of the strategies we want to make it easier. Drop a pin where you would like to see more cycle parking, on-street cycle hangars and e-bikes. You can find the existing locations for cycle hangars and e-bike bays already on the map. We’ll use your ideas to inform future locations and apply for funding.

Planting & Trees
Greening the kerbside helps make our streets feel safer and more attractive, whilst also building resilience to climate change and poor air quality. Do you have a suggested location at the kerbside for trees or planters? Drop a pin for where you would like to these on your streets. We’ll use your ideas to inform locations and apply for funding.
Parking
We want to ensure we cater for blue badge holders in the borough, and also introduce priority parking bays in council managed car parks for vulnerable groups including women and disabled people or those with mobility requirements who may not meet blue badge requirements. Where would you like to see these new parking bays? Drop a pin and let us know. We’ll use your ideas to determine demand, to help inform locations and apply for funding.
Deliveries & Taxis
We know the number of deliveries is increasing and need to provide space for this. We also want to provide lots of ways for people to get around, and using taxis is part of this. Drop a pin and let us know where you would like to see delivery lockers, new loading or taxi bays and accessible taxi bays. We will use your ideas to inform future schemes, determine demand and apply for funding.
