How does this link to Hounslow's Transport Strategy?
Hounslow Council’s Transport Strategy (2025) sets out a vision for the transport network to be Safe, Inclusive, Efficient, Healthy, Green and Clean. The Strategy prioritises investment in active travel (walking, wheeling and cycling) and public transport (bus, rail and tube).
Hounslow's Sustainable Transport Hierarchy
The Council has a target of 71% of all trips to be made by sustainable modes by 2041. A large proportion of these will be by public transport, especially for longer journeys.
Since publishing the Transport Strategy in March 20205, the council has produced dedicated action plans for walking, wheeling and cycling which go into further detail regarding active travel. The draft Public Transport Plan will do the same for bus, tube and rail travel. Together, all the action plans will help us achieve our transport targets by encouraging more people to travel sustainably.
How will this plan be implemented?
In addition to the council, implementation will sit with a variety of stakeholders such as Transport for London, Network Rail and South Western Railway. This is because Hounslow Council does not operate buses or trains directly, but we play a vital role in shaping the network within our boundaries. Collaboration will therefore be key to realise the ambitions set out in the plan.
