Consultation has concluded

This consultation closed on 24 November 2023, an update will be available shortly which will summarise the findings and next steps.

Background

Hounslow Council is developing a programme called Net Zero Neighbourhoods as part of its commitment to addressing the climate emergency and reducing the carbon footprint of council-controlled services. Also how we influence and can support change in the wider borough.

This programme focuses on ensuring homes in different neighbourhoods across the borough can become more energy efficient and resilient to climate change. By doing this at a neighbourhood level, this will increase the Council's engagement with the community around low carbon improvements, deliver changes more economically and accelerate the implementation of these improvements, whilst also reducing carbon emissions.

These changes to improve the energy efficiency of homes is known as retrofitting, and will reduce how much energy homes use for heating, lighting, and cooking (and create a warmer household that is cheaper to run). Instead of using mechanisms such as gas boilers, cleaner energy sources like air source heat pumps could be installed.

In addition to retrofitting homesthe Council will also make low carbon improvements to the wider neighbourhood.

Community travel survey

As an initial step in developing the programmethe Council would like to find out more about residents’ travel habits to better understand the requirements of local communities.

Resident feedback will help inform the changes that could be implemented as part of the wider neighbourhood improvements

Changes could include installing electric car charging points, car-sharing schemes, improved walking and cycling paths, cycle parking, or creating more eco-friendly drainage systems.

The survey will include questions about travel habits, means of transportation, and regularity of travel.

This is a by-invitation survey to selected neighbourhood's in the borough. The relevant households will receive a letter inviting them to take part in this online survey and it will share a Unique Reference Number which you should put in when prompted in this survey. These households will also receive a paper copy of the survey to complete if preferred.

Forgotten or misplaced your Unique Reference Number? Drop us an email at: green.recovery@hounslow.gov.uk.

Please do not complete this survey if you haven't received a letter inviting you to take part, your entry will not be counted in the outcomes and you will not be able to enter the prize draw.
