Since 2021, with funding from the Environment Agency, Hounslow has been investigating options for schemes to reduce the risk of flooding within the borough. Four catchment areas have been looked at: North-west Hounslow, Feltham, Chiswick & Grove Park, and Isleworth & Brentford End.

What are SuDS?

Sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) aim to mimic nature by trying to manage rainfall as close as possible to where it falls. SuDS can be designed to slow runoff down, provide areas to store water and can be used to allow water to soak into the ground. These processes mean that SuDS are important because they can:

  • Reduce the risk of surface water flooding
  • Improve water quality
  • Enhance the biodiversity value of the environment
  • Improve our green spaces

What is the project?

The project is to install a small wetland feature at the southern end of Grantley Road Open Space. The wetland will capture and store surface water during periods of high rainfall, before discharging it at a slower rate to the sewer. This will reduce the pressure on the sewer network and reduce the risk of flooding to the surrounding roads and properties.

Who is delivering the project?

The SuDS project is being delivered by Hounslow Council, with support from the Environment Agency.
