Consultation has concluded
Overview
In accordance with Transport for London’s Bus Stop Accessibility and the Department for Transport Inclusive mobility guidelines, the council is proposing to relocate two bus stops and to remove one bus stop on Twickenham Road and to create a new southbound bus stop on St John’s Road.
Following other successful schemes across the borough and after discussion with TfL and local schools, we are now consulting on a proposal to improve accessibility to bus services around the Isleworth War Memorial.
What are we proposing?
The proposed changes and reasons for the changes are listed below:
What are we proposing?
Why are we proposing it?
To widen the footway between 251 Twickenham Roadto 231 Twickenham Road.
The narrow footway is only 1.2m wide and there is high footfall during the school peak periods. Widening the footway creates space for bus passengers and pedestrians.
Relocate the northbound Isleworth War Memorial bus stop and loading bay towards 231 Twickenham Road, and torearrange the Pay & Display Parking reducing the bays from four to two.
The footway is proposed to widen to 2m near 231 Twickenham Road, relocating the bus stop / flagto the widest point of the footway will improve pedestrian access when passengers are waiting for the bus.
To remove the southbound Isleworth War Memorial busstopoutside 84-92 Twickenham Road.
The narrowfootway is only 1.3m wide creating conflict with bus passengers and pedestrians. Removing the stop allows continuity of the southbound cycle lane.
To relocate the southbound Mandeville Road bus stop (currently locatedoppositeLinkfieldRoad) to outside Silverhall Park.
The footway at this location is wider and allows more space for bus passengers and pedestrians.Regulates the distance between stops.
To install a new bus stop on St. John's Road, east of Kendall Road serving the H37 and 117 routes.
This bus stop compensates for the removal of the stop outside 84-92 Twickenham Road and supports interchange between the H37 and 267,481 and H22 services. The stop will directly serve the Gumley Gardens entrance of Gumley House School.
To upgrade the pedestrian crossing on Twickenham Road south of Mill Plat to a two-stage zebra crossing. To widen the refuge islandand footway outside no. 203-205 Twickenham Road and to remove one parking bay.
To improve pedestrian accessibility to the new Mandeville Road bus stop location. A larger refuge island increases capacity forpedestrians, buggies and wheelchairs. The footway widening improves visibility and safety when using the proposed zebra crossing.
To upgrade the Twickenham Road/North Street junction crossing with contrasting coloured road surface to highlight the crossing and tightening the corner radius to shorten crossing length.
To improve visibility of crossing points and pedestrian priority at the junction.
To install brightly coloured road surface at crossing points around Twickenham Road/St. John's Road junction.
To improve visibility of crossing points and pedestrian priority at the junction.
To install an uncontrolled crossing point east of new bus stop location on St. John's Road, with new pavement buildout in place of 1 parking bay on the south side of the road.
To serve the passengers getting on and off the new bus stop.
Where to board my bus?
Below is a table to show where you would now catch your bus from with these new changes, if a bus stop in the area is not listed, that means it is unchanged by the proposals:
Current bus stop
New bus stop
Isleworth War Memorial (stop TJ) northbound
Isleworth War Memorial (stop TJ) northbound new location 50m north of current.
Isleworth War Memorial (stop TH) southbound
Mandeville Road (stop TF) southbound new location 83m north of current.
Mandeville Road (stop TF) southbound
Mandeville Road (stop TF) southbound new location 112m south of current.
Isleworth War Memorial (stop TH) southbound for interchange between the H37 and 267, 481 and H22.
New eastbound bus stop on St. John's Road and walk 223m to Mandeville Road (stop TF) southbound new location
