Section 106 agreement signed
Following the decision by Planning Committee in February 2026 to approve updated designs for the Brentford Police Station site and the Albany Riverside site, the Section 106 agreement has now been signed, which means formal planning consent for the redevelopment is now in place.
With full planning consent now in place, the Council and its development partner Topland Group will begin the process of formally marketing the sites, with the aim of finding a buyer to construct the scheme.
The planning consent and the terms within the Section 106 agreement mean that, unless a future buyer applies for new planning consent, the redevelopment would provide 330 new homes (111 at Brentford Police Station and 219 at Albany Riverside), as well as a new arts centre across the ground floor and mezzanine level of the development at the former Brentford Police Station site.
It is difficult to estimate how long it will take to secure a buyer, but once one is in place, we hope work on the sites will get underway quickly.
In the meantime, the Council has begun a thorough review of the options for the new arts centre and is exploring possible operating models that could make it a sustainable, flagship cultural venue for Brentford and the wider borough.
The aim is to create a flexible cultural venue that gives more people the opportunity to enjoy and take part in arts and culture close to home. We also want local people to have the opportunity to help shape the arts centre and its future offer. Once the current work is complete, we will share more information here on Let’s Talk about how people can get involved.
