Project Overview

The redevelopment of the former Brentford Police Station and Albany Riverside sites will bring new homes and a new arts centre to Brentford Town Centre. The approved plans for the two sites are set out below:

What facilities will the arts centre provide?

The redevelopment of the former Brentford Police Station site is a major opportunity to provide a new, sustainable arts centre for Brentford and the wider borough.

We want the arts centre to be able to meet the needs of the community now and in the future. The Council has therefore worked with the design team to develop plans for a flexible space that can support a range of uses and respond to changing needs over time.

The final cultural offer and use of the space will be determined by the future operator, but the design could accommodate:

  • Gallery space and art exhibitions

  • Live performances, including theatre and music

  • Cinema screenings and film production

  • Conferences and celebration events

  • Community spaces

  • An ancillary bar

What opportunities will there be for local people to shape the arts centre and its offer?

Engagement around the borough’s Culture Strategy in 2025 has already given us valuable insight into what people want and expect from arts and culture provision in this part of the borough and across Hounslow.

Earlier in 2026, we committed to carrying out further community engagement specifically on the new arts centre, so we can better understand people’s ambitions for the venue. Since then, consultants have been appointed to look at potential operating models and begin exploring these with potential operators. Once that work is complete, community engagement will follow.

When engagement activity begins, we will share details of how people can get involved here on Let’s Talk. We will also work with local organisations to make sure their communities and networks have the opportunity to take part.

    Section 106 agreement signed

Following the decision by Planning Committee in February 2026 to approve updated designs for the Brentford Police Station site and the Albany Riverside site, the Section 106 agreement has now been signed, which means formal planning consent for the redevelopment is now in place.

With full planning consent now in place, the Council and its development partner Topland Group will begin the process of formally marketing the sites, with the aim of finding a buyer to construct the scheme.

The planning consent and the terms within the Section 106 agreement mean that, unless a future buyer applies for new planning consent, the redevelopment would provide 330 new homes (111 at Brentford Police Station and 219 at Albany Riverside), as well as a new arts centre across the ground floor and mezzanine level of the development at the former Brentford Police Station site.

It is difficult to estimate how long it will take to secure a buyer, but once one is in place, we hope work on the sites will get underway quickly.

In the meantime, the Council has begun a thorough review of the options for the new arts centre and is exploring possible operating models that could make it a sustainable, flagship cultural venue for Brentford and the wider borough.

The aim is to create a flexible cultural venue that gives more people the opportunity to enjoy and take part in arts and culture close to home. We also want local people to have the opportunity to help shape the arts centre and its future offer. Once the current work is complete, we will share more information here on Let’s Talk about how people can get involved.
