Consultation has concluded
Overview
As part of the council’s commitment to increase levels of cycling in the borough, we provide residents with the opportunity to apply for cycle parking in the form of a bike hangar. Bike hangars offer secure cycle parking for residents in areas where the ability to safely store bikes within a property, or the front/rear garden is limited. The council current has 23 bike hangars in the borough, 21 of which are fully subscribed and have a waiting list.
The location of a bike hangars is based on a request from residents. Once a request is received and funding is secured, a feasibility assessment and a site visit is undertaken to ensure that the location is viable and a suitable location is proposed. The proposed location is based on many factors including: parking availability, width of the footway, property frontage (bike hangars will not be placed directly outside a pedestrian access) and the proximity to original request.
The bike hangars are installed and managed by CycleHoop. The council covers the installation cost of new bike hangarand alsoprovides a 50% subsidy on the cost of renting spaces. Therefore, the annual rental fee per year is £36 per space, with each hangar providing space for six bikes.
What are we proposing?
The council would like your opinion on the following proposed bike hangars in Chiswick. The locations are listed below and plans can be found on the sidebar underneath "Consultation Plans":
Chamberlain Gardens, Hounslow: This location was chosen because it is close to the original request. There are no marked parking bays, but after the implementation of the bike hangar this will allow eight cars to be parked.
Hartham Road, Isleworth: This replaces the location that was consulted on in November 2022, this location will not be proceeded with. The proposed location is the nearest suitable location that is close to the original request. This bay length is 150m long and will still allow 33 cars to park within the bay.
Linkfield Road, Isleworth: This location was chosen as it is in a long continuous parking bay of 97m, which minimises the impact on parking in comparison to a shorter bay. Additionally, this location is where the footway is at its widest, with a footway width of 2.1m to allow the opening and closing of the hangar safely without obstruction.
Malting Way, Isleworth: This location was chosen as it was close to the original request. Despite no marked parking bays, a maximum of three cars can park outside the entrance to Richardson House. A bike hangar will reduce to overall parking to two spaces.
Wood Lane, Isleworth: This location was chosen because it is close to the original request. It is being placed in a parking bay of 62m and will still allow for thirteen vehicles to be parked after the installation of the bike hangar.
