Overview

The Take Me To The River project will help people discover the magic of the River Crane in Hounslow. Events and activities have been planned for the next two years (2024 to 2026) that focuses on engaging with residents and visitors whilst simultaneously improving the wildlife.

The Project is funded by Hounslow Council’s Thriving Communities Fund and the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) fund. It is being delivered as a partnership project between Hounslow Council’s Parks Team, Habitats and Heritage (H&H) and Let’s Go Out and Learn (LGOAL) who will organise community exploration events and opportunities to help improve the River Crane and local parks for wildlife.

Let's Go Outside and Learn are creating a group for local people to help us plan the project, email takemetotheriver@lgoal.org.uk to share your thoughts.

What we want to achieve:

  • Remove physical barriers to access - The Parks team will undertake some works to remove barriers for wheelchairs and buggies, smooth out paths and add signs to make the River easier to find and explore along the Hounslow side of the Crane Valley Trail (runs from Harrow to Isleworth).
  • Inspire and engage the community- 20 workshops and activities have been planned that all aim to inspire local people to the river and in return will encourage you to get out and explore the river and green spaces more. You can explore new routes to get to work, school, the shops, learn about the history of the river, connect with the living world, be creative or benefit your health and wellbeing.
  • Improve habitats for nature- Habitats and Heritage will create opportunities to get local people involved with volunteering with practical work along the river to make it better for people and wildlife. Works include but not limited to; uncovering views to the river, planting native plants to reinforce riverbanks, controlling invasive species and even improving the conditions for Water Voles. Check their website to see what’s on!

2026 Update

From April into summer of this year, works will be taking place across various pathways along the Crane Valley in the borough.

Sections of pathway will be inaccessible whilst works take place, please plan your route accordingly.

Works include:

  • repairing and replacing the main river pathway in Brazil Mill and Waye Avenue.
  • connecting Waye Avenue Open Space to Bath Road by creating a brand-new pathway.
  • creating boardwalks which allows the route to be used all year round regardless of weather.
  • removing A frame barriers and replacing them with chicanes.

These paths form 13km of the Crane Valley Trail, which runs through 5 boroughs and will be an essential green route for residents.

We apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause.
