19/08/2026 Update Whitestile Road and Windmill Road

We are working closely with Cadent to coordinate the programme of works to ensure the SuDS scheme is not constructed and subsequently disrupted by Cadent's works, which require access along the same stretch of Whitestile Road and Windmill Road.

Residents may be aware that Cadent has already commenced works on site. As a result, construction of the SuDS scheme will begin following the completion of Cadent's works. Our contractor has provided a provisional start date of 7 September 2026.

Any road closures, diversions and temporary parking bay suspensions will be communicated through advance on-site signage. Throughout the construction period, our contractor will make every effort to minimise disruption to residents and local businesses.

Access to properties will be maintained at all times; however, there may be minor delays on occasion to facilitate the safe movement of materials, equipment and machinery.

Windmill Road and Whitestile Road permeable paving

Drainage improvements works are taking place at the junction of Windmill Road and Whitestile Road. The proposal being delivered is in response to frequent flooding in this area and concerns raised by residents. This area is a low point where surface water collects, and due to the intensity of storms the public sewer network is unable to cope.

After surveying options to reduce flood risk, the proposed solution is the installation of permeable paving, which is a form of a Sustainable Urban Drainage System (also known as SuDS). The photo below shows an example of what this feature would look like:

This feature will increase drainage capacity in the public surface water sewer network by providing underground storage that temporarily holds and slowly releases surface water. This will reduce flood risk during heavy rainfall events. As weather patterns change and storms become more intense, there may still be some remaining risk; however, the scheme represents an important step in improving protection for the area.

The locations for the SuDS features are shown in the map below and construction is planned for 5 weeks commencing in August 2026. Once complete, there will be no loss of parking bays arising from the permeable paving. There will be some temporary loss of parking bays outside no's 136 to 156, Windmill Road and no. 137 Windmill Road, whilst works are carried out, and our contractor will make every effort to minimise the impact the works will have on residents. Access to properties will be maintained, although there may be some minor delays to facilitate movement of materials and machinery.
