What is happening with the footbridge?
Network Rail wrote to residents in August 2024 to provide an update on the maintenance plan for the footbridge. Their works took place in September and included re-nailing loose panels, re-screwing anti-slip panels and installing anti-trespass fencing.
Due to the feedback received as part of the co-design project, Network Rail has now committed to working with the council and local stakeholders on future proposals for the footbridge. The next stage will be to undertake feasibility work, including looking at the amount of required for a ramped option to be delivered, and discussions are ongoing regarding funding.
We expect any potential delivery of the footbridge element to take place between 2027/2028 updates to the local community and stakeholders will be provided as and when available. In the meantime, Network Rail will carry out the safety maintenance work to ensure that the bridge remains open and safe to use.
