Road Safety Improvements at the roundabout on St John's Road, Isleworth
The London Borough of Hounslow is conducting a public consultation as part of our ongoing programme to improve the road safety at roundabout on St John's Road, Isleworth.
Why are we proposing this?
The Council has received concerns regarding road safety at the roundabout on St John's Road at its junction with Shire Horse Way. Many drivers on St John's Road do not properly yield to traffic merging from Shire Horse Way, which compromises safety. Engineers have proposed road safety amendments for this junction.
Many drivers currently ignore parts of the existing roundabout and its approaches on St John's Road. The Give Way system at the roundabout is frequently disregarded by drivers, resulting in numerous near-miss incidents involving cars, motorcyclists, and buses. This disregard for road rules contributes significantly to unsafe conditions at the junction.
What is the proposed scheme?
- To enhance safety at the roundabout, particularly at its junction with Shire Horse Way.
- To address concerns from residents, businesses, and councillors via the Community Led Schemes initiative.
- To improve visibility and guidance for motorists using better road markings and signs.
- To update infrastructure by slightly elevating the central dome, adding a Keep Left bollard, installing Give-Way markings/signs, and adjusting parking bays.
These proposals will enhance overall safety and accessibility for all road users at the St John's Road roundabout, creating a higher-quality and more inclusive environment for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists.
Collectively, the planned improvements are intended to raise safety awareness, promote safer travel by walking, cycling, and driving for everyone in the community, including children, parents, and guardians.

Considerations

- Enhanced visibility with clearer road markings and signage, likely reducing confusion and accidents.
