What is the project?

The River Thames Scheme is an Environment Agency led project that will consist of a new flood channel in two sections, through the boroughs of Runnymede and Spelthorne in Surrey. In addition, there will be increases in capacity at three weirs and downstream of the Desborough Cut. These measures will better protect thousands of homes and businesses, enhance the natural environment around the river, and boost the local economy.

The River Thames Scheme is designed to unlock the economic, health and environmental benefits of the river between Egham and Teddington.
