The Scrutiny Group provides a vital platform for the residents voice, ensuring that tenants and leaseholders have a meaningful role in shaping and improving housing services. By reviewing policies, performance data, and service delivery from a resident’s perspective, the group helps hold the housing provider accountable as a “critical friend” and drives positive change . Members of the scrutiny group bring first-hand experience and insight, highlighting issues that matter most to the community and making recommendations that reflect real resident priorities. This collaborative approach strengthens transparency, builds trust, and ensures that residents are not just heard but actively involved in influencing decisions that affect their homes and lives. Residents Voice is the tenant-led group acting as a critical friend to review services. Joining the Residents Voice group is via a selective process, drawing in tenants from across different communities. In turn, Residents Voice will invite wider numbers of tenants to help review the services you receive.

Residents Voice Promotion Event
Back in May, we held a promotion event
at Mission Hall in Brentford. It was a
great afternoon where council tenants
and housing staff came together to learn
about what we do – and why it matters.
Our very own Carolyn, Vice-Chair of the
group, kicked things off with a powerful
speech about how Residents Voice came
to be. In a nutshell, we were formed
because Hounslow Council wanted
tenants to have more say and more
power in how council housing is run.
That means more than just filling
out the odd survey – it means
real involvement, with access to
performance data and a direct line to
decision-makers.
We go through the numbers, the
reports, and the feedback, and then we
ask the tough questions. If things aren’t
working as they should, we say so. And
we don’t stop there – we also make
suggestions to help improve the service,
and when needed, we propose changes
to policy.
