Community Reference Voluntary Groups

The Community Reference Groups (CRGs) are voluntary groups of like-minded people from all backgrounds who have a shared interest in improving their neighbourhood and environment.

The groups meet regularly and work closely with Hounslow Council officers where members will input and influence environmental projects and services from a strategic standpoint

  • Cleaner greener CRG – this group contributes to consultations, waste campaigns, and have been influential in the development of the Council’s approach to green skills and careers.
  • Climate and clean air CRG – this group tackles climate change head-on and focuses on issues such as air quality and CO2 emissions. The volunteers have played an important part in the Council’s efforts to improve air quality, and have helped create the Air Quality Action Plan.

Expressions of interest are currently being accepted.

Environmental champions

The Environmental Champions group are a team of volunteers from the borough who take a hands-on approach to helping create a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Hounslow.

As a member, residents take part in monthly climate-friendly activities including litter picks, tree planting, conservation, and practical workshops. Volunteers also receive exclusive e-newsletters, project support, free tools, and equipment.

The Council is now recruiting for more green-fingered volunteers. If you're interested or have any questions, please contact environmental.champion@hounslow.gov.uk

The Council is passionate about supporting nature and is proud that Hounslow is one of the greenest boroughs in London.

The Lampton Greenspace Countryside team manages 18 countryside sites across the borough, each with an individual habitat management plan. The team hosts regular volunteering events all year round for residents to get involved with.

Tree watering

Hounslow is one of London's greenest boroughs with approximately 40% of its surface area comprising of parks and green spaces. The borough's trees are maintained by Lampton Services Greenspace and Hounslow Highways, on behalf of the Council.

When new trees are planted, watering needs are supported by Hounslow Highways and Lampton Services Greenspace crews. However, during dry weather, these newly planted young trees (under 2 years old) can really benefit from more regular watering. Residents are encouraged to help water any new trees that are accessible to them.
