Environmental champions

The Environmental Champions group are a team of volunteers from the borough who take a hands-on approach to helping create a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Hounslow.

As a member, residents take part in monthly climate-friendly activities including litter picks, tree planting, conservation, and practical workshops. Volunteers also receive exclusive e-newsletters, project support, free tools, and equipment.

The Council is now recruiting for more green-fingered volunteers. If you're interested or have any questions, please contact environmental.champion@hounslow.gov.uk

The Council is passionate about supporting nature and is proud that Hounslow is one of the greenest boroughs in London.

The Lampton Greenspace Countryside team manages 18 countryside sites across the borough, each with an individual habitat management plan. The team hosts regular volunteering events all year round for residents to get involved with.

Tree watering

Hounslow is one of London's greenest boroughs with approximately 40% of its surface area comprising of parks and green spaces. The borough's trees are maintained by Lampton Services Greenspace and Hounslow Highways, on behalf of the Council.

When new trees are planted, watering needs are supported by Hounslow Highways and Lampton Services Greenspace crews. However, during dry weather, these newly planted young trees (under 2 years old) can really benefit from more regular watering. Residents are encouraged to help water any new trees that are accessible to them.

Improving Household Energy Efficiency

Hounslow Council is providing advice to all property owners in the borough to improve the energy efficiency of thier homes and businesses in order to reach net zero by 2050.

There are currently no obligations on the owners of homes and businesses to make such changes to properties, but benefits of doing so can include reducing running costs, improved comfort and a potential increase in property value.

What can householders do?

To reduce energy demand and avoid unnecessary waste of heat and electricity, you can make changes to your behaviour and how you use your home. Increasing energy efficiency can be achieved by investing in loft, wall, and floor insulation, as well as replacing doors and windows. Switching to efficient, low carbon sources of energy for heating, lighting, and other uses is also important. Additionally, adapting our homes and gardens to better cope with extreme weather such as heatwaves, droughts, and torrential rain can make a significant difference.
