Proposed speed reduction measures – Gunnersbury Park Garden Estate
What are we proposing?
The council is proposing speed reduction measures to further enhance road safety and address public concerns of high speeds and traffic flows.
The proposed speed reduction and road safety measures include:
1. Gunnersbury Lane (junction with Princes Avenue):
· Building out the footway into Gunnersbury Lane at the junction, narrowing the carriageway to improve visibility for vehicles exiting Princes Avenue. The proposed scheme will not impact on existing parking provision.
· The London Borough of Ealing are responsible for Gunnersbury Lane, initial approaches have been made which suggest they would be amenable to this proposal. If the designs were to progress following the consultation we would need to enter formal discussions with them.
· A side road entry treatment on Princes Avenue providing a level crossing point for pedestrians.
2. Princes Avenue
· A southbound vehicle activated sign, outside No. 102. This will trigger, acting as a reminder of the speed limit, if vehicles approach exceeding 20mph.
3. Park Drive
· A southbound vehicle activated sign, outside No. 31.
4. The Ridgeway
· An eastbound vehicle activated sign, outside No. 37.
Why are we proposing this?
The Gunnersbury Park Garden Estate is within a 20mph zone and traffic surveys show that speeding is a concern particularly on Princes Avenue. Vehicle speeds do appear to be decreasing since the first surveys were taken in the Estate in 2015, however due to the low traffic flows there is still a lack of compliance with the 20mph limit.
