Proposed Bike Hangars in Hounslow 2026
Hounslow Council is seeking your views on the proposal to install bike hangars at locations across Hounslow to provide cycle parking for residents. We would like to hear from residents and local stakeholders.
This consultation is open for your views until 2nd October 2026.
Overview
As part of the Council’s commitment to increase levels of cycling in the borough, we provide residents with the opportunity to apply for cycle parking in a bike hangar. Bike hangars offer secure cycle parking for residents in areas where the ability to safely store bikes within a property, or the front/rear garden is limited. The borough currently has 64 bike hangars, 54 of which are fully subscribed and have a waiting list.
The location of a bike hangar is based on a request from residents. Once a request is received and funding is secured, a feasibility assessment and a site visit is undertaken to ensure that the location is viable and a suitable location is proposed. The proposed location is based on many factors including: parking availability, width of the footway, property frontage (bike hangars will not be placed directly outside a pedestrian access) and the proximity to original request.
What are we proposing?
The Council is consulting on bike hangars in the following locations:
Prince Regent Road: The location is on the adopted footway, near the original request, but it is not situated in front of an active property frontage.
Spring Grove Crescent: The location is on the adopted highway, near the original request.
St Stephens Road: The location is on the adopted highway, near the original request.
Woodland Gardens: The location is near the original request but is not situated in front of an active frontage to a property.
Why are we proposing this?
The proposals form part of the Council’s commitment to supporting active travel by making cycling more accessible and convenient for residents. Secure bike hangars provide safe on-street storage for bicycles, helping people who may not have space at home to store their bike, by increasing access to secure cycle parking.
