This consultation invites residents and local stakeholders to give their view on whether the council should allow bike hangars to be installed in Chiswick

Overview

As part of the Council’s commitment to increase levels of cycling in the borough, we provide residents with the opportunity to apply for cycle parking in the form of a bike hangar. Bike hangars offer secure cycle parking for residents in areas where the ability to safely store bikes within a property, or the front/rear garden is limited. The brough currently has 55 bike hangars in the borough, 43 of which are fully subscribed and have a waiting list.

The location of a bike hangars is based on a request from residents. Once a request is received and funding is secured, a feasibility assessment and a site visit is undertaken to ensure that the location is viable and a suitable location is proposed. The proposed location is based on many factors including: parking availability, width of the footway, property frontage (bike hangars will not be placed directly outside a pedestrian access) and the proximity to original request.

What are we proposing?

The Council would like your opinion on the following proposed bike hangars:

  • Annandale Road: The proposed location is near the original request, but it is not situated directly in front of an active property frontage. This parking bay is 41, and the hangar would be placed within a permit holder's bay, still allowing 5 cars to park there.
  • Burlington Road: The proposed location is near the original request, but it is not situated directly in front of an active property frontage. This parking bay is 9m, and the hangar would be placed within a permit holder's bay.
  • Chiswick High Road: The proposed location will replace existing Sheffield stands that are no longer in use on the footway.
  • Dale Street: The proposed location is near the original request, but it is not situated directly in front of an active property frontage. This parking bay is 120m, and the hangar would be placed within a permit holder's bay, still allowing 21 cars to park there.
  • Devonshire Road: The proposed location is within a parking bay that is 54m in length which will allow 8 cars to park after the installation of the hangar.
  • Duke Road: The proposed location is near the original request, but it is not situated directly in front of an active property frontage. This parking bay is 120m, and the hangar would be placed within a permit holder's bay, still allowing 21 cars to park there.
  • Eastbury Grove: The proposed location is near the original request, but it is not situated directly in front of an active property frontage. This parking bay is 120m, and the hangar would be placed within a permit holder's bay, still allowing 21 cars to park there.
  • Strand-On-The-Green: The proposed location is within a parking bay that is 41m in length which will allow 5 cars to park after the installation of the hangar.
  • Upham Park: The proposed location is near the original request, but it is not situated directly in front of an active property frontage. This parking bay is 120m, and the hangar would be placed within a permit holder's bay, still allowing 21 cars to park there.
  • Waldeck Road: The proposed location is near the original request, but it is not situated directly in front of an active property frontage.

Plans showing the proposed locations can be seen in the 'Consultation Plans' section on this webpage.
