Art and creativity can play a part in making Feltham an attractive, welcoming and distinctive place. In the last few years you might have seen more public art appearing around the area.
England Connects Mural Mosaics
This “England Connects” mural mosaic was unveiled on 12th July 2024 by the Mayor of Hounslow Councillor Karen Smith along with local MP Seema Malhotra. It was installed with the help, support and funding of Hounslow Council and South Western Railway.
After being put forward to the Global Roots Project, Feltham was selected to host the England mural. Over 1,300 tile designs were submitted by individuals and groups in the local area as well as from across London, England and the rest of the world. These individual images were then melded together to produce this unique work of art. Its purpose is to celebrate unity in diversity both in the work of art itself, and in the creative process as a collaborative effort. As such it reflects the approach of its founder, Canadian artist, Lewis Lavoie.
Bridge House Pond
This mosaic sign was unveiled on 7th October 2024 by the Mayor of Hounslow, Councillor Karen Smith at Bridge House Pond. It had been created by Hounslow Mosaic and Community Artist Susie John who had involved around 200 residents and council officers in making this public artwork. Susie ran a number of workshops in Feltham for the public to create their own mosaics for the border, then worked with the community mosaic group based at Feltham Belvedere House to create mosaic objects resembling Feltham and Bridge House Pond as suggested by Feltham people. The mosaic sign, replacing the existing banner was installed by Paul Gibbinson from Hounslow Men's Shed.
Tree Rings Mosaics Project
Susie John has now been appointed to beautify the tree rings on Feltham High Street. Local groups and schools will sponsor the rings and will have a say in their design as well as helping to make them.
Not only will the tree rings bring more creativity to the street, they will also have a practical purpose in making the concrete tree rings more easy to distinguish from the surrounding paving for pedestrians.
