This is your chance to apply to become a Member of the UK Youth Parliament (MYP) for Hounslow.


What is the UK Youth Parliament?

The UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) empowers young people to speak up on the issues that matter most both locally and nationally.

As a Hounslow MYP, you will represent Hounslow’s young people on a national scale, working with other young representatives from across the UK to campaign for change and influence decision-makers.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Debate issues in the House of Commons

  • Work with other MYPs across the UK

  • Campaign on key issues affecting young people

  • Develop leadership, confidence, and communication skills

Who can apply?

You can apply if you:

  • Are aged 14-18

  • Live in, study in, or have a strong connection to Hounslow

  • Are passionate about representing other young people

No prior experience is needed — just enthusiasm, commitment, and a desire to create change.

What’s expected of you?

Successful applicants will need to commit to the full one-year role. This includes:

  • Representing Hounslow’s young people locally and nationally

  • Joining or continuing as a member of Hounslow Youth Council for the full duration of your appointment

  • Attending regular meetings, events, and activities

  • Leading or contributing to campaigns

You will also be required to:

  • Attend a national residential weekend at a UK university, where MYPs from across the country come together to set priorities and prepare for parliamentary debates

  • Attend the UK Youth Parliament sitting in the House of Commons during the Autumn term


Election process

If your application is successful, you will become an official candidate and take part in a borough-wide election. Following an initial eligibility check, there will be a peer selection process, with elections taking place in schools and youth spaces

Key dates:

  • Campaign period: You must actively campaign between 24 June – 6 July to promote yourself and encourage young people to vote

  • Voting: Will take place in schools from 6 July – 10 July

  • Please complete the form to submit an application to the Youth Parliament. The form will include asking you why you want to join as well as some equalities data. 

    The Council collects Equalities data to help improve access to Council services for all residents. The Council also has to collect and analyse data to demonstrate compliance with the Equality Act 2010 (Specific Duties) Regulations 2011. We also want to ensure that we have consulted with all of the different equalities groups.  Your answers will not be used to identify you.  You do not have to complete these questions.
