Hounslow Council wants your views on proposals to make Summerwood Road safer and more accessible for pedestrians travelling to Ivybridge School.

In recent years, the Council has stepped up its efforts to improve pedestrian accessibility through the borough. The plans include upgraded footways, improved crossings and improvements to landscaping. You can share your views between 8th December 2025 to 12th January 2026. We encourage responses from residents, parents, and the local community.

Overview

In recent years, the Council has stepped up its efforts to improve pedestrian accessibility along the borough and as a result enabling more active modes of travel including walking and cycling.

What are we proposing?

The Council is proposing the following changes that will improve the accessibility along Summerwood Road.

  • Construction of four new buildouts to enable the relocation of street lighting from the narrow footway, thereby creating safer and more accessible space for pram and wheelchair users.
  • Removal of four parking spaces to accommodate the new buildouts.
  • Resurfacing of the footway with modular paving or materials of equivalent high quality.
  • Reconstruction of parking areas using grey and buff Tegula block paving, or similar premium materials.
  • Clearing and trimming of vegetation along the footway to improve accessibility and visibility.
  • Installation of a raised pedestrian crossing finished with buff-coloured block paving or similar material.
  • Provision of buff tactile paving at crossing points to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility.
  • Removal existing bollards and replacing with new bollards and 4 new semi mature trees.
  • Replacing existing school street entrance signs to include 'except permit holder IS 1'

A copy of the proposals and a copy of the consultation letter (including the plan of proposals) can be accessed using the links on this page. You can also view our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on School Streets.

Why are we proposing this?

The proposals form part of the Council’s commitment to promoting active travel (encourage children to walk, cycle and scoot to school), reduce pollution and improve safety outside the school.
