Thank you for your message and for sharing your concerns regarding the recent Sustainable Drainage Systems (SUDS) installation at Thornbury Park.
We understand that the current condition of the site may appear unsightly, and we appreciate the community’s patience as we carry out this important work. The heavy clay that was excavated during installation has been temporarily spread across the area as part of the initial construction phase. We acknowledge this is not the final presentation of the space.
Next Steps:
The Parks Team, in coordination with Thames Water and Thames21, will soon begin the reinstatement phase. This will include:
Removal or redistribution of excess clay to improve soil quality and drainage.
Soil conditioning and grading to prepare the area for planting.
Reseeding or replanting with appropriate grass and native species to restore the park’s natural character and ensure long-term benefits.
Ongoing monitoring and maintenance to support successful regeneration of the landscape.
The SUDS installation is designed to improve surface water management and enhance biodiversity in the long term. We are committed to ensuring the park is returned to a high standard and continues to be a valued green space for the community.
