Background
Feltham High Street is the commercial heart of the town and serves a wide area. As well as shops, there are market stalls and local services such as the library and health centre. Like many other high streets, however, it suffers from vacant shop units, lacks the range of independent businesses or an evening offer that we know many residents want to see. In the long term there is an opportunity to redevelop the underused parade to deliver attractive shop units which can encourage a wider range of businesses - with new homes above.

We already know from earlier community engagement that improving the offer on the high street and making it feel safer in the evenings are priorities for residents. Through this engagement process we want to hear what you think about our ideas for how that can be achieved.
The High Street today
What the future could look like
A mix of business uses:New development can provide opportunities to enhance the retail, leisure food and beverage offer in the centre of Feltham. This could include attractive retail and leisure along the river. Opening up connections to light industrial workspace and education facilities close to the High Street can also help to make the High Street more dynamic and easier to access for people working and studying close by.
More cycle and pedestrian-friendly: We have seen in other town centres how making them more cycle and pedestrian-friendly can improve the experience for shoppers and other visitors. We think that better walking and cycle ways along Feltham High Street and 'spill out' space for businesses will benefit residents and businesses. This could include a new riverside path.
New homes: Creating residential apartments in and around the High Street will help to address the ongoing demand for homes, will help to make new commercial development more viable, will increase custom for local businesses and create a 'positive active frontage' onto the streets below - which will help to make places feel safer.
The plan below shows how the High Street could be enhanced and better connected into surrounding areas - use the key at the side to help make sense of it.
There is a full-sized version of this plan in the Document Library on the right-hand side of the screen - click on it to open it.
You can tell us what you think about this by completing the Feltham Masterplan Survey. We would suggest you read more of the material about the masterplan first by looking through the other project tiles on the Future Feltham hub.
