Overview
The Council has approval to improve cycling facilities between Feltham and Heathrow (Priority Cycle Route no. 1). This Feltham–Heathrow route is a 3.5km route that uses a mix of traffic-free paths and low trafficked streets to make a connection between the Perimeter Road and Feltham town centre.
By creating a safer environment for cyclists and pedestrians we aim to encourage more people to use these healthy and sustainable forms of transport.
The proposals form part of the Council’s commitment to promoting active travel and increasing cycling levels across the borough.
What are we proposing?
An important part of this cycling route is the existing footbridge at Richmond Avenue, linking Richmond Avenue to Hatton Road via the footpath adjacent to the Marjory Kinnon School. The existing footbridge has a useable width of 1.8 metres, therefore cyclists are advised to dismount when using the bridge. To overcome this, a wider bridge is proposed, which will allow pedestrians and cyclists to share the space without the cyclist dismounting.
The existing bridge will be removed and replaced with a wider structure as shown in the consultation poster/project plan, the alignment of the bridge will be changed to improve sightlines across the bridge. The scheme will include improvements to the footpaths on both sides of the bridge.
