Since the original consultation, which ran from 12 weeks between 3rd August 2023 – 24th November 2023, is now over a year old, we are holding a second round to ensure we have the most up-to-date views. Don’t worry, if you’ve already given your opinion the first time around it will still be taken into account. But if you haven’t and want to have your say, please complete the survey which runs from 13th January 2025 to 9th February 2025.
To help keep our neighbourhoods safe and pleasant for everyone, we’relooking at whether we should introduce certain rules around dogs in our parks and open spaces.
The vast majority of dog owners act responsibly and keep their pets under control. However, the council continues to receive comments and complaints from residents about the behaviour of some dogs and irresponsible dog owners.
In response to this, the council wants to gather residents' opinions about a variety of dog control related issues. The feedback will help us decide whether to introduce a dog control public space protection order (PSPO).
Public Space Protection Orders are aimed at ensuring public spaces can be enjoyed free from anti-social behaviour. They are not about stopping the responsible use of public spaces - but they do provide councils with a tool to tackle persistent issues that are damaging their communities.
Check out the Frequently Asked Questions for more details about the Dog Control PSPO and how it works in practice.

This survey is to find out what people living and working in the borough think about a variety of dog control related issues. Good homes and neighbourhoods are among the council's priorities - so we are keen to hear from everyone who uses our excellent parks and open spaces.
Your answers and comments about this issue will greatly help the council decide whether to introduce a dog control public space protection order (PSPO).
If introduced, the order will last for three years - when it will be reviewed and people will again have the opportunity to have their views taken into account.
Once the survey is closed, the results will be analysed and a decision made.
The outcome will be published on this page as well as being publicised across the borough.
