This consultation asks residents and local stakeholders to give your view on whether the Council should allow bike hangars to be installed in locations across Chiswick.

Overview

As part of the Council’s commitment to increase levels of cycling in the borough, we provide residents with the opportunity to apply for cycle parking in the form of a bike hangar. Bike hangars offer secure cycle parking for residents in areas where the ability to safely store bikes within a property, or the front/rear garden is limited. The brough currently has 41 bike hangars in the borough, 38 of which are fully subscribed and have a waiting list.

The location of a bike hangars is based on a request from residents. Once a request is received and funding is secured, a feasibility assessment and a site visit is undertaken to ensure that the location is viable and a suitable location is proposed. The proposed location is based on many factors including: parking availability, width of the footway, property frontage (bike hangars will not be placed directly outside a pedestrian access) and the proximity to original request.

The bike hangars are installed and managed by CycleHoop. The Council covers the installation cost of new bike hangar and also provides a 50% subsidy on the cost of renting spaces. The annual rental fee per year is £36 per space, with each hangar providing six bike spaces. Rental spaces are managed by CycleHoop and offered on a "first come first serve basis". If you would like to be placed on the priority list for a space within the proposed hangar, then please state that in your consultation response.

What are we proposing?

The Council would like your opinion on the following proposed bike hangars:

  • Binns Road: The proposed location is near the original requests, but is not situated in front of an active frontage to a property. This parking bay is 87m in length and the hangar would be placed within an unmarked bay, still allowing 15 cars to park there.
  • Blenheim Road: The proposed location is within a parking bay that is 160m in length which will allow 28 cars to park after the installation of the hangar.
  • Cornwall Grove: The proposed location is within a parking bay that is 21m in length which will allow 3 cars to park after the installation of the hangar.
  • Cranbrook Road: The location is near the original request within a single parking bay.
  • Dale Street: The proposed location is within a parking bay that is 135m in length which will allow 24 cars to park after the installation of the hangar.
  • Elliott Road: The proposed location is within a parking bay that is 36m in length which will allow six cars to park after the installation of the hangar.
  • Ennismore Avenue: The proposed location is within a parking bay that is 90m in length which will allow 15 cars to park after the installation of the hangar.
  • Flanders Road: The proposed location is near the original request, but is not situated in front of an active frontage to a property.
  • Gordon Road: The location is near the original request, but is not situated in front of an active frontage to a property. This parking bay is 63m in length and the hangar would be placed within a parking bay, still allowing 10 cars to park there.
  • Oxford Road South: The proposed location is within a parking bay that is 27m in length which will allow 4 cars to park after the installation of the hangar.
  • Quick Road: The proposed location is near the original requests, but is not situated in front of an active frontage to a property. This parking bay is 135m in length and the hangar would be placed within an unmarked bay, still allowing 24 cars to park there.
  • Ranelagh Gardens: The proposed location is near the original request, but is not situated in front of an active frontage to a property.
  • Staveley Gardens: The location is near the original request, but is not situated in front of an active frontage to a property. To access the bike hangar the grass verge in front of the bike hangar would be converted to hardstanding.
  • Stile Hall Gardens: The proposed location is near the original request but is not situated in front of an active frontage to a property within a single parking bay.
Plans showing the proposed locations can be seen in the 'Consultation Plans' section on this webpage.
