Have your say on Cargo Bikes in Hounslow
Hounslow Council is exploring opportunities to increase cargo bike use across the borough, including options for private ownership, shared cargo bike schemes, secure parking and future pilot projects. Your feedback will help us to shape what the provision of Cargo bikes looks like in Hounslow. Share your views before 22nd November 2026.
Why are we engaging?
We want to understand from residents and businesses how cargo bikes could be use to support day to day activities and what would help you to use and access cargo bikes in the future.
Your feedback will help us to shape what the provision of Cargo bikes looks like in Hounslow.
It is important that we understand your views, as we plan for the future transport needs of the borough.
What is a cargo bike?
Cargo bikes are bicycles designed to carry children, shopping, tools, equipment or deliveries. Many are electrically assisted, making it easier to carry heavier loads and travel longer distances. Cargo bikes are increasingly being used by families, businesses and organisations as an alternative to some car and van trips.
There are several different types of cargo bike:
- Longtail cargo bikes have an extended rear frame that can carry children, shopping or equipment behind the rider. They ride similarly to a standard bicycle and are often popular with families.

- Front-loader cargo bikes have a cargo box positioned between the rider and the front wheel. These can carry children, shopping or larger loads and allow riders to see what they are carrying whilst cycling.

- Cargo trikes have three wheels and a larger cargo box, providing additional carrying capacity and stability when stationary. They are often used by businesses and organisations carrying larger or heavier loads.
