This consultation has now concluded

This survey closed on Sunday 11 February 2024 , an update will be available shortly which will summarise the findings.

Overview

As part of the council’s commitment to increase levels of cycling in the borough, we provide residents with the opportunity to apply for cycle parking in the form of a bike hangarBike hangars offer secure cycle parking for residents in areas where the ability to safely store bikes within a property, or the front/rear garden is limited. The council current has 23 bike hangars in the borough, 21 of which are fully subscribed and have a waiting list.

The location of a bike hangars is based on a request from residents. Once a request is received and funding is secured, a feasibility assessment and a site visit is undertaken to ensure that the location is viable and a suitable location is proposed. The proposed location is based on many factors including: parking availability, width of the footway, property frontage (bike hangars will not be placed directly outside a pedestrian access) and the proximity to original request.

The bike hangars are installed and managed by CycleHoopThe council covers the installation cost of new bike hangar and also provides a 50% subsidy on the cost of renting spaces. Therefore, the annual rental fee per year is £36 per space, with each hangar providing space for six bikes.

What are we proposing?

The council would like your opinion on the following proposed bike hangars in Chiswick. The locations are listed below and plans can be found on the sidebar under "Consultation Plans":

Arnott close: The proposed location is within a parking bay of 21m which will allow four cars to park in the bay after the installation of the bike hangar.

Belmont terrace: The original request for this location originated from Bridge Street but due to parking capacity issues, the hangar is being proposed on the adjacent road, Belmont Terrace. This is within a parking bay that is 60m in length which will allow 12 cars to park after the installation of the hangar.

Chiswick high road (outside 548 Chiswick high road):  The proposed location is on the footway.

Chiswick high road (outside Chiswick gate): The proposed location is at the back of the footway.

Cleveland avenue: This location was chosen as it is the nearest practical location to the original request. The proposed location is within a parking bay that is 82m in length which will allow 17 cars to park after the installation of the hangar.

Grantham road:  This location is next to an existing e-bike bay, a small section of grass verge in front of the bike hangar will be replaced with hardstanding to provide a level access to the bike hangar.

Pyrmont road: This location was chosen since it is closest to the original request and is nearer to the junction which reduces the impact on parking without affecting the existing tree.

Swanscombe road: This is for a second hangar at Swanscombe Road as there has been a request for another hangar on the road. This also will support a request from the neighbouring road Coombe Road. The proposed location is within a parking bay with a length of 78m, which will allow 16 cars to park after the installation of the bike hangar.

Thornton avenue: This location was chosen as it is the nearest practical location to the original request. The proposed location is within a parking bay that is 25m in length, which will allow five cars to park after the installation of the bike hangar.

Wilton avenue:  A hangar is being proposed at Wilton Avenue to help ease the demand for bike hangars in the Ashbourne Grove area. The proposed location is on a single yellow line.
